HBO and IDW Publishing are proud to announce the launch of the first-ever comic book series based on the network’s hit show True Blood. Available today at San Diego Comic-Con and comic retailers throughout North America, this sexy, visually striking comic series will add new and unique layers of supernatural drama to the wildly original Emmy®- and Golden Globe®-winning television show. Two exclusive versions of True Blood #1 will be available at San Diego Comic-Con, each with a different cover. Fans can find a special David Messina wrap-around cover at the IDW booth #2643. Select comic retailers throughout the convention will offer a second exclusive cover, featuring a monochromatic version of Joe Corroney’s cover.
Developed with the show’s Oscar®-and Emmy®-winning creator, Alan Ball (HBO’s Six Feet Under, American Beauty), IDW’s True Blood series is the exclusive, official show comics. True Blood #1 is available in both print and digital formats through the Apple App Store and the Sony Digital Comics store.
“I am very excited to be introducing the True Blood comic book series,” stated Ball. “These graphic novels are a great companion to the series and we are pleased that the popularity of the show is allowing it to branch out into different mediums.”
Beginning with issue #1, the True Blood comic series offers the same erotically-charged romance, wry humor, intriguing mystery and suspense the show has become known for. In this comic book series, Sookie and many other Bon Temps locals find themselves waiting in Merlotte’s bar for a strangely portentous raging storm to subside. Soon, they discover they’ve been trapped by an entity that feeds off of raw emotions and begins killing off the patrons one by one until his hunger is sated.
The plot was developed with Ball, along with series writers Elisabeth Finch and Kate Barnow, and co-written by David Tischman and Mariah Huehner. Beautifully illustrated by top tier artist David Messina, the series captures all the bloody details and sexy reveals of this exciting new adventure. Renowned artists J. Scott Campbell, Joe Corroney, and Andrew Currie join Messina in providing covers for the first issue.
The True Blood comics will explore the ongoing adventures of telepathic heroine Sookie Stackhouse, her vampire lover Bill Compton, best friend Tara Thornton, enigmatic and ancient vampire sheriff Eric Northman, loyal boss Sam Merlotte, brother Jason Stackhouse, perpetual-virgin vampire Jessica, and the flamboyant cook Lafayette Reynolds.
True Blood #1 (of 6, 32 pages, full color, .99) is now available in stores.
True Blood #1, SDCC exclusive (32 pages, full color, ) will be available at the IDW booth #2643.

S. J. Day’s Marked series continues with the release of the third volume, Eve of Chaos (A Tor Urban Fantasy Mass Market Original, .99; On Sale June 30, 2009). Cursed with the Mark of Cain, formerly agnostic Evangeline Hollis must survive demons, celestial politics, and the rival attentions of Cain and Abel in present-day Orange County, California.
Released on an accelerated schedule, the launch books of the series have been published over three consecutive months to wide acclaim. The author’s use of the Old Testament tale of Cain and Abel in a modern milieu has sparked spirited discussions on blogs and among reading groups. “S.J. Day has obviously done her research into the lore she is using,” writes Kelly Lasiter of FantasyLiterature in her review of the first installment, Eve of Darkness.
“We know Cain was branded with the Mark of Cain and cursed to wander,” Day says, “but we also know that he later married, fathered children, and established a city. Clearly something changed, but what exactly happened is a mystery. There is a lot left to the fertile imagination of a fiction writer.”
While the premise of the series is based on the tale of Cain and Abel, and the two brothers are prominent secondary characters, the main protagonist is Evangeline Hollis. Eve, a first-generation Japanese American, has been lauded by Publishers Weekly as “impressive” and “dynamic and vibrant.” An agnostic when the series begins, Eve’s acclimation to becoming a bounty hunter for God grounds the fantastical and sometimes humorous storylines. “If you like Patricia Briggs or are a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris,” says a reviewer on Goodreads.com, “you will be a fan of this series as well.”
In her review of Eve of Darkness, Denise Dutton of Greenman Review writes, “Charlaine Harris, Katie Macalister, Kim Harrison . . . S.J. Day? There’s a new chick in Urban Fantasy town, and …she makes a provocative, compelling arrival. Here’s hoping Eve doesn’t work off her Mark anytime soon.”
Eve of Chaos was preceded by Eve of Darkness (May 09) and Eve of Destruction (June 09).

Question by Jacamary: Who was “Bubba” in the first Sookie Stackhouse novel?
I just finished the first novel “Dead Until Dark” late last night and I loved it, but I was just a little confused about this character. They kept saying that they recognized him. Who was he? What was his real name? And what exactly went wrong with his transformation? Were they referring to his affinity for cats?

Answer by MEA
He is suppose to be Elvis. Not really sure why his transformation went wrong, but I guess he likes to eat animals more than humans.

Question by DieAndBeBorn: Isn’t it interesting that?
doesn’t it tell you something that, so many young girls today are getting interested in vampirism due to the movie twilight? And even getting hooked to the new very violent show on HBO “True Blood.”? Let alone so many kids getting obsessed with sorcery on the Harry Potter series.
My sister included is getting hooked to vampire shows and movies now, due to twilight and i find it very disturbing to kids today who take there eyes off God and more on the vampire and sorcery cult. I just want to hear what anyone has to say about this because if no one can see these movies and shows are setting their kids in danger with such violence, than how will they know what is right?
You can’t help but to notice very increasing popular movies or shows. Every time one rises it has to do with something that leads them away from God.
I am not one to make a big deal about this but i just wanted other people’s thoughts on it. I like a a lot of movies to but i just find it disturbing for kids because there minds eat up what they hear and see.
To Man of Chalk: it has nothing to what they “say” its what their mind feeds on.
TO Kettu: lol i don’t have a daughter, i said my sister.

Children/adolescents have always been interested in mythical creatures and the supernatural – this is not a recent development.
For example, ghost stories were enormously popular in the 19th century.
